Music & Dementia: How Music Can Support People with Dementia 2025
Overview
This training will focus on practical music-based ideas and takeaways that can be implemented with either individuals or groups, to help support people to live well with dementia.
What will participants learn?
Participants will learn about music and the brain and what makes this such a distinctive tool in dementia care. A range of accessible music-based activities will be explored that can support communication and cognitive skills, as well as relaxation for those living with dementia.
We will think about how using music can support the principles of person-centred care and help to meet the psychological needs of people living with dementia.
Functional applications for the use of music during daily procedures such as personal care will also be explored, with guidance for implementation. Participants will learn how to group appropriate activities together to create a tailored session plan.
