Why We’re Deactivating Our X Account: Staying True to Our Values

At Chiltern Music Therapy, we are deeply committed to fostering an environment of inclusion, care, and community. As an employee-owned organisation, our values guide every decision we make, and it’s important to us that our actions reflect the mission we stand for. That’s why, after much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to deactivate our X (formerly Twitter) account. While X has been a valuable platform for connecting with many of you, it has become clear that the direction it has taken in recent months no longer aligns with our core values. As an organisation dedicated to creating positive, inclusive spaces—both in person and online—we believe it’s vital that the platforms we use mirror these values. Unfortunately, the growing concerns around harmful content, divisive rhetoric, and a shift in the platform’s culture have led us to this decision.

Our Approach to Making This Decision
At Chiltern Music Therapy, we believe in the power of collaboration, not just in the services we provide, but also in how we run our organisation. As an employee-owned organisation, the voices of our entire team matter. Before finalising this decision, we engaged in a 30-day consultation period with our team to ensure that every perspective was heard and considered. This decision reflects the collective input of those who work every day to bring our mission to life. We are proud of the thoughtful and inclusive approach we’ve taken, and we believe it will help us stay true to who we are.

What’s Next?
Although we are stepping away from X, our commitment to connecting with you, our community, remains stronger than ever. We invite you to continue engaging with us across our other platforms:

  • LinkedIn: Follow us for professional updates, job opportunities, and news in the world of music therapy.
  • Instagram: Connect with us for inspiring stories, projects, and the heart of our work in action.
  • Facebook: Stay updated with events, announcements, and all things Chiltern.
  • Threads: Our newest platform where we’ll continue to share real-time updates and discussions.
  • Newsletter: Sign up to stay informed about upcoming events, groups, and exclusive content delivered right to your inbox.

We understand that change can sometimes feel daunting, but this decision is a step towards ensuring that we stay aligned with our core values. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us on X over the years and invite you to stay connected with us on these other platforms as we continue to serve our mission of inclusive and impactful music therapy.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us foster a caring and connected community.
