Training

There are lots of ways to get involved with Chiltern. From regular training events to conferences. We can’t wait to meet you!

We provide regular training opportunities for Music Therapists and other Allied Health Professionals and Arts in Health professionals, as well as nurses, healthcare workers, educators, SENCos and students.

If you are considering becoming a Music Therapist, we can provide more information about the profession, types of work a therapist does and routes into the profession through our 'Introduction to Music Therapy' package.

Our development programme, NEST, is aimed at newly or recently qualified Music Therapists.

We are able to provide bespoke training sessions in your settings for groups of 10 or more. Get in touch to speak to a member of our training team. Or book a 15min slot with our training coordinator to discuss options.

You can find a list of upcoming training sessions below. If you're not able to attend live, there's now an option to buy a 'recording and slides only' ticket. Don't see the training you were looking for? We run a number of our trainings multiple times a year and are always adding new trainings so make sure you've subscribed to our training newsletter (below the upcoming trainings) to be the first to hear!

This was a very informative and interesting training session, which I'm sure I will take forward with me when I qualify.

Thank you so much. I look forward to the next one!!

Are you in your first few years of working as a Music Therapist? Or maybe you have just returned after a career break? Chiltern Music Therapy’s CPD Accredited NEST Programme can help you. It is a programme of accredited training, support, supervision, mentoring and community aimed specifically at recently qualified Music Therapists. Having launched a successful first cohort in November 2022, we are now opening the application window to our third cohort which will commence in January 2025.

You will be able to improve your skills, knowledge and understanding in a creative and supportive environment and build a network of peers and mentors, ensuring that you complete the programme with the tools to work in a variety of settings and with a range of clients.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the programme, why not arrange a 1:1 chat with our training coordinator here.

We would love to meet you at one of our upcoming events. Click on the event to find out more!

Programme Overview

The 8 month programme includes the following elements:

how we work

Accredited CPD Module

Training sessions on a variety of useful CPD including Music Tech, Outcome Measures, Gender Awareness in Music Therapy, Neurodiversity and much more.

Mentoring

Monthly group sessions led by our most experienced supervisors will help participants develop their skills and knowledge.

Peer-Led Supervisions

Regular peer supervisions to support and build the confidence of the participants. A dedicated Chiltern Music Therapist who understands the challenges, as well as opportunities, for those just starting out.

Identifying your needs

Private Slack community

A peer support network is crucial for recently qualified Music Therapists so we are providing access to a private messaging channel to bring the cohort together to ask questions, share ideas and get support.

1:1 Coaching Session

The 8-month programme will conclude with a 1:1 coaching session for participants with one of our highly experienced supervisors to review progress and plan next steps for professional development and career pathway.

Plus

Also included in the package is a variety of benefits: First look access to upcoming posts at Chiltern, career pathways guidance, practical learning about the industry, opportunity to shadow one of our therapists, and the chance to discover more about Chiltern’s self-managed way of working.

I have really enjoyed connecting with and meeting other music therapists at a similar stage in their career. It can be a very isolating role and experience so this has been great. It has also been great to have extra opportunities for CPD on such a wide range of topics. I have found the topics to be well thought through and relevant

A participant on the first NEST cohort.

What sets us apart?

With extensive experience working with different age groups and settings across England, Chiltern is well-positioned to guide NEST participants on their career journeys. We will not only help you to develop your skills and better understand how to apply them but also increase your employability, recognising the challenges of newly qualified Music Therapists to meaningfully compete for job opportunities.

As well as improving your knowledge and understanding by attending a variety of professional development opportunities, our programme will also help to build your confidence and gain invaluable advice in our 1:1 coaching sessions with experienced Chiltern staff.

With peer support from a private online community, access to resources and trainings specifically aimed at recently qualified Music Therapists, you will finish the programme feeling like you have had a personalised head start to your career in Music Therapy.

We are proud to confirm that our training is CPD accredited by the CPD Certification Service.
