Following our previous pilot project at the Intermediate Neuro Rehab Unit (INRU) at Trafford Hospital delivered under the Chiltern-MusAbility partnership, we were delighted to provide a 3 month NMT extension in Spring 2024 for patients in need of specialist Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT)® support. The service was delivered by our Neurologic Music Therapist, Alice. Our Neuro Lead, Elizabeth Nightingale produced the service report at the end of the 12-week full day service.

NMT® goals were set with input from the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and directly linked with patient's functional and psychological rehabilitation goals.

The majority of patients fully achieved their goals during NMT® treatment, demonstrating this to be a motivation and effective treatment intervention with the rehabilitation packed offered to INRU patients.

Staff in the MDT were very supportive of the project and highly impressed with the outcomes. One Speech and Language Therapist commented:

“NMT has been motivating for patients, it has massively improved mood of some people in the group and opened doors for new ways of working when patients weren't engaging in therapy."
